Do you ever look back on your past and think, if only I would have done this one thing differently, life would be so much better right now …

Us too.

We’ve all wished we could press rewind, but unfortunately, that button doesn’t exist in reality. We can only start making changes to our life right this very moment.

As the famous Chinese Proverb says, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”

So here’s a proposal. Why not take on three — just three — small, simple habits you can start incorporating into your life? Fold them into your daily routine now, and your future self will say a big, resounding, “Thank you!”

These habits will not only set you up for future happiness, but they’ll also give you more confidence and motivation for weeks and months to come. Ready to treat the future Y-O-U?

You may already know 1, 2, or 3 things you can do starting now that will benefit your future, but here are a few we enjoy if you need some ideas:

  1. Repeat a morning mantra. Have you told yourself lately you’re amazing? It’s time to start doing it every single day. Come up with a mantra of choice — like, “I’m worthy and deserving” or “I am enough,” and say it to yourself when you first get out of bed.

When you begin your day with an affirmation, you’re setting yourself up for a positive, empowered day.

2. Take 15 minutes to move. We’ve all had days that are so busy, exercise seems almost impossible. But if you make a commitment to simply move for fifteen minutes each day, chances are it will get done (and hey, something is better than nothing, right?). To help you commit, try adding a regular event to your calendar so you block out the time and get a reminder to get moving.

Then, play a good song and dance like no one’s watching, take a quick walk outside or do a mini yoga routine on YouTube. Not only will your joints and muscles rejoice, but you’ll get a hit of feel-good hormones. Yes, please!

  1. Start a gratitude journal. You might not have time to write down every last detail of your day (if you do, more power to you!). But you probably can spare a minute or two to jot down one, two or three things you’re grateful for each night. That’s the beauty of a gratitude journal — it’s a fast and effective mood booster.

Research shows again and again that people who are grateful feel greater happiness. So taking a moment to express gratitude (even if it’s just for your morning latte) can help you feel consistent joy.

While these habits may seem small, we promise they’ll have a big impact on your life — not just in the moment, but in the weeks, months, and years to come.

Here’s to a happier, thriving future you!

XO,
Emily and the EveryDay Happy Team
