“The surest way to be happy is to seek happiness for others.” — Martin Luther King Jr.
Ever get a text from your friend that she bought her dream home? Or that your younger cousin is engaged to her perfect person? Or your sister landed a huge promotion?
While you love your friends and loved ones, sometimes when we’re not in the best place, it’s hard to feel genuine happiness for others. Even when we truly want to.
Hearing about someone else’s good fortune can make us feel behind, or like we’re failing and sadly, make us feel bad about where we stand in life.
But, Martin Luther King, Jr. was right. It’s time to be happy for others — not only because it’s the right thing to do, but doing so will actually boost your happiness too — and good fortune.
When someone you love lets you know of their happy news, recognize that birds of a feather flock together and if they can be, do, have or experience this great fortune, well, so can you!
Instead of saying “Congrats” and leaving it at that, ask your sister about her promotion or your cousin about her engagement. Get the details, feel their energy and you’ll find yourself feeling happy and excited too.
Dig deep if you need to find a way to be truly happy for them, just as they will be for you when your good day rolls around.
The happier you can be for one another — the more WINS you’ll have to celebrate together.
To your every dream coming true!
XO
