Do you ever feel like some days you have so much energy you can take on the world and accomplish every single thing on your to-do list – with energy to spare? And other days … well, it’s an accomplishment if you manage to get something substantial done at all?
Us too!
Blame it on the heat, the state of the world, or just plain getting older, but sometimes we need an extra energy boost. And while a giant cup of coffee can give us a quick jolt, focusing on these three areas works much better:
1.Sleep.
How you feel during the day in large part depends on how you slept the night before, so do everything you can to get those good Zzzzzs!
Create a pre-bed routine and relax in a warm bath, turn off electronics at least an hour before turning out the lights, and minimize lights and sounds that might wake you up.
2. Hydration.
It’s incredible how something as simple as a glass of water can change everything. When you’re dehydrated, your energy levels fall, you’re more likely to feel hungry (even if you’re really just thirsty), and your body just can’t function as well.
So start your day with a big glass of water, and keep sipping all day long. If you’re not a big fan of plain H2O, try sparkling water or adding fruit to your water bottle for extra flavor.
3. Movement.
When you’re exhausted, the last thing you probably want to do is workout. We get it. But taking even just a few minutes to get up from your chair and walk around the block or do some stretches can help you shake off that tired feeling. And making exercise a regular part of your routine can help increase your energy over time, too!
One last thing — it’s normal to have the occasional low energy day, and it’s totally OK to embrace it. But if you find yourself having more of these days than not, talk to your doctor to make sure nothing serious is going on.
Your health is so important, so make sure to do everything you can to take care of Y-O-U.
Have a happy and healthy weekend!
XO
