How are you feeling right now?
Before you say, “fine” or even “good,” we want to tell you, it’s OK if you’re not.
It’s a weird time, and we’ve all been through a lot the past couple of years – and now with the holidays, it’s not always easy to “turn on” the merriment and cheer.
While it’s important to do what you can to stay positive by practicing gratitude and looking on the bright side, it’s also important to allow yourself to feel all you’re feeling — instead of ignoring or shoving your emotions aside.
The holidays often come with a mixed bag of feelings and the past two years have been in emotional overdrive. Joy, grief, hope, fear, all wrapped together like lights around the tree.
Last week, we talked about taking a holiday day off, and today we want to encourage you to take a moment to yourself this season to do a proper self check-in. Between baking cookies and mailing cards, carve out an hour and treat yourself to a festive mocha, dust off your journal and take a moment for Y-O-U.
We suggest asking yourself a few of these simple questions …
- How am I sleeping these days?
- What’s the first thing I think about in the morning?
- How do I start and end my day?
- How am I truly feeling right this very moment?
- What am I craving in life right now?
- If I could vent to someone right this second, what would I say?
- What is worrying me in life?
- What’s inspiring me?
- What am I excited to do, see or experience in the new year?
Once you’ve answered these questions, read them over and pay attention to what stands out. You may be surprised by certain trends you notice and what areas you might need to work on.
While there’s a lot going on in the world and in the holiday season that can throw you off your emotional game, remember that these emotions are what you feel — they’re not who you are. It’s important to allow yourself to feel all you’re feeling so you’re better equipped to help Y-O-U.
Be good to yourself this holiday season!
With merry love,
