Has anyone told you lately that you’re amazing? Really, you’re wonderful and the world’s lucky to have you in it.
But if you’re not feeling so hot about yourself these days (hey, it happens to all of us!), it may be time for a self-confidence check-in.
Most of us aren’t born with Wonder Woman levels of self-confidence. That’s not to say we aren’t doing incredible things — it’s more that we don’t give ourselves credit for as much as we should.
The good news, though, is that self-confidence is a skill that can (and will) get better over time. All it takes is a little bit of practice and doing these four key things:
1. Affirm love for yourself. You’ve got it going on, so you’ll want to remind yourself of that regularly — even if it feels silly. An easy way to do this is in the morning while you brush your teeth, tell yourself, “I am smart, beautiful, kind and wonderful” or whatever loving words you have for yourself. Fill your head with positive thoughts and words about yourself.
2. Talk back to your inner naysayer. We all have that mean girl in our head, taunting us and making us feel bad about everything we do. If thoughts like, “There’s no way you could ever do that” come up, reply back in your head with something optimistic, like “Yes, actually, I can. I can and I will!”
3. Create micro-goals. Overwhelmed by a huge project? Instead of hanging a big deadline over your head, set yourself up for success by giving yourself small, mini-goals. You’ll get a confidence boost by crossing off each mini-goal, and you’ll be surprised how fast you can get it all done.
4. Give yourself some TLC. It’s hard to feel confident when your energy is low or your body’s out of balance. Give yourself permission to indulge self-care by sleeping in, doing yoga in the morning, sipping a green juice, taking a walk or relaxing while getting a pedicure. Ask your friends or neighbors to take the kids for a few hours, or take a long work lunch. Make time for some much-deserved “Me Time” and enjoy. Just be sure to leave the guilt behind!
Self-confidence is key to living a happy life and it’s easier to boost than we may think. Practice tuning out negative thoughts about yourself (which 99.9% of the time aren’t even true), and focus on loving yourself more.
When you take steps to boost your self-confidence life becomes easier and far more fun. Not to mention, working on your self-confidence will be contagious — you’ll not only help yourself, but your friends and loved ones will start to love themselves more too.
Talk about a win-win. 😉
Be good to yourself today!
