3 Simple Ways to Create a Good Day

You know those days where everything seems to go wrong from the moment you get out of bed?

You can’t find your keys, step in bubble gum, and everyone you encounter has completely lost their manners.

On the flip side, you know those days where the world seems to be serving you goodness on a silver platter?

You hit all green lights, miss the coffee house line and a stranger gives you the best compliment of your life.

We all know things tend to come in three’s and how a bad morning can turn into an even worse day.

In order to bring on the good from the moment we wake up till the time we hit the pillow here are 3 simple ways to create a good day:

  1. Be Grateful

What thoughts go through your head when you first wake up?

“Ugh. I don’t want to go to work today.”

“I shouldn’t have had so much wine last night…” (Or cake, lasagna, swapped veggies for onion rings, etc.)

“This weather blows!”

(I’ve thought all of the above many a mornings in my life!)

Our thoughts are powerful creators and what we think about persists. If we want to experience goodness throughout the day, we need to kick it off in appreciation.

Be grateful for a good night’s sleep, a cozy bed, a roof over your head.

Be grateful for sunny days, rainy days and to be able to experience a new day.

While it’s oh-so-easy to think about all we’re supposed to do that we don’t want to do in the hours ahead, or dwell on something we’re upset about from the day before, we have to turn our attention to what’s good from the get-go.

As Oprah says, “What you focus on expands. When you focus on the goodness in life, you create more of it.”

  1. Set an Intention for Your Day

If you’ve been in my community awhile, you know I love setting intentions.

Setting intentions gives our mind direction. We consciously decide what we want and declare it to our selves and the universe (this may sound a little woo-woo, but go with me…).

The best part about setting intentions is that it’s easy. You can’t overthink it and you can’t do it wrong. You simply set an intention for what you want.

As you get out of bed each morning set an intention for your day.

You can intend to:

  • Have a good day.
  • Attract the right clients, friends or relationships.
  • Resolve a technology issue stress-free.
  • Be patient and take deep breaths when so-and-so annoys you.
  • Make more money.
  • Experience safe and smooth travels.
  • Laugh more.
  • Feel better.
  • Love yourself no matter what.

Intend for something spectacular to happen in the next 24 hours.

You may be pleasantly surprised with what shows up!

  1. Make your bed.

Yes, our mom’s will love this one! 😉

Making the bed is a relatively easy task. In doing so, we successfully complete something in the first minutes of our day.

This gives us a feeling of accomplishment and our brains go, “Ok, that’s done, what’s next?”

Making the bed sets us up to be more productive throughout our day and to expect more wins.

Making the bed first thing in the morning also shows self-discipline and that you care about your space.

As U.S. Navy Admiral William H. McCraven said, “Making your bed will [reinforce] the fact that the little things in life matter. If you can’t do the little things right, you’ll never be able to do the big things right.”

Not every day will be spectacular, especially all the way through.

But by starting each day with gratitude, setting an intention and making the bed we can tip the scales in our favor to create a good day.

Go on, get started!

Make Time for Your Dreams

What’s one thing you could do that would make this year stand out from the rest and make you feel like you took a big leap in your life?

These days, many of us are so pressed for time that we give ourselves few moments to do what actually excites us. But even if your day feels impossibly stuffed, you can make time for what really matters.

A Less Stress Summer

A Less Stress Summer

Summer is synonymous with relaxation, but sometimes we find ourselves stressed out and not living our best, “feet in the sand, good book in hand,” season.

Worries happen to all of us. But, one of the easiest ways to feel more carefree is to take a moment to declutter your brain. Because here’s the deal: Our brain can only handle so many thoughts at once. Anything extra bouncing around distracts you from enjoying otherwise happy moments.

Here’s how:
